The aquatic center is poorly run by an incompetent aquatic center director and lousy executive director. They took the fans from the pool room leaving it extremely humid and smelly, several other visitors appeared to be affected after steaming in their steam room and it poses potential health risks, especially for overweight and elderly patrons. The jacuzzi always has bandaids and nasty stuff floating in it. I kindly requested they look into this matter and take appropriate action to ensure a more comfortable and safe environment for all guests and was met with a negative/dismissive response from their senior leadership. If you have a Y membership go to University or Morgan Family which is currently being remodeled and will have a much better aquatic center. Overall a terrible place to be.

One of my favorite Y locations because of the great aquatics department led by Nathan. All of my kids took swimming lessons here during weekend lessons. Izzy, my kids miss you, especially Meliana! 😢 You were an amazing swim instructor. I’m disappointed they had low enrollment or funding issues and had to cancel some of the programming though. But it was great while it lasted.

This is a great gym and I enjoy working out here very much! The staff is great and there is a nice variety of equipment and weights. The place is well kept and clean.

Pre covid I came here faithfully. But now not so much. 1. They took away the Spirit, Mind & Body room and turned it into a media room. So no more Yin Yoga. Now for Yin Yoga I have to drive out to Lakewood which is far and out of the way for me. Tacoma Center Y is an “adult” center and is ideal for all types of yoga especially Yin. Lakewood is not ideal at all whatsoever it is very loud and disruptive. 2. They took away the cable machine, squat rack and the free weights from upstairs. I loved it upstairs because could do full body workouts and feel comfortable. They made the room into an awkward stretching room that hardly get used now. It would be amazing if Tacoma Center Y brought back Yin Yoga and put the weights back upstairs.

This gym has fit all my needs! Update (11/24) they have recently got a new director. A lot of changes have swiftly taken place. Including the plants!! Makes the place feel kind of cold. We also had a cool board where they took suggestions on classes or cool places to hike. It's also gone. Whole front of house went from welcome to, just come work out. Hope it doesn't stay this way. It's nice to have. Places feel like community vs corporate.
