About this class

The New Orleans Public Library offers some wonderful programs for you and your little one. Their "Early Literacy" initiative focuses on activities like talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together to build a strong foundation for your child's future learning. They also host "Prime Time Preschool," a 6-week program where families gather weekly to enjoy stories, discussions, and hands-on activities centered around a theme. Plus, their "We PLAY Center" at East New Orleans Regional Library provides a free, safe space for infants and toddlers to play and learn, supporting healthy brain development and social skills. It's a great way to bond with your kiddo and meet other families. Parenting can be tough, but these programs make it a bit easier and a lot more fun.

Parents rave about the Nix Library staff, noting they're consistently helpful and friendly, always going above and beyond to assist. Just a heads-up: if you’re planning to browse in person, make sure to arrive early as it’s first-come, first-served!

Our library system is wonderful overall but the Nix staff are truly the best. Every single time I’ve had a question or needed help with something, they go above and beyond to assist. They really are just the nicest people who genuinely want to help!

Love this library! The staff are all wonderful, it’s not as big as some of our other libraries but they have a great selection & you can easily reserve books & such online & they’ll be there in a couple of days. I see a bunch of folks bad mouthing our unhoused neighbors in other reviews but they’ve always polite & kind in my experience, perhaps they’re just mirroring your attitude towards them. The library is a community space for everyone & Nix is no exception.

The younger staff are very patient and kind, but the facilities are filthy. The whole audiobook section is covered in dust, the area near the computers are littered with dirt and occasionally trash. Plus the security guard hit on me twice and it made me really uncomfortable.

Call ahead for contactless pickup of items you've already placed holds on and to book appointments for computer use. In-person browsing is available on a first-come first-served basis; however, placing holds via the nolalibrary.org website and picking up using contactless curbside pickup seems to be the more efficient and preferred way of getting material.
