About this class

If you're looking for a fun way to introduce your little one to the water, the West Boise YMCA offers a "Stage A Water Discovery" class for infants and toddlers. This class is all about making your kiddo comfortable in the water through playful exploration. You'll be right there with them, helping them learn to blow bubbles, float, and even practice gentle rolls. It's a great way to bond and build water confidence together. I know juggling schedules can be tough, but this class might just be the splash of fun you both need!

Parents often mention how their little ones come out of swim class beaming, eager to show off their newfound skills. Just a heads-up: you might want to bring extra snacks for after class—those kiddos work up an appetite!

This ymca is not the best, I go here with friends and family every once in a while but omg everytime it disappoints. For example today I went with my mom and sisters and we already knew that the 50 meter pool had been closed for maintenance. When we got there wasn't any problems, we got in and after 15 minutes the lifeguard tells us that it's closing for swim lessons in 15 minutes. We had never heard of this or was told. We drove 30 minutes here to stay for 30. The staff don't know how to communicate.

I’ve been going for 10 years, won’t anymore, my daughter and other teenage girls were in the female locker room when an adult male entered and showered in there, the YMCA is allowing it! Ask them yourselves, yes I have reported it, and yes they still allow it. Yes I have reported it, “making sure everyone feels safe” doesn’t apply to underage girls I suppose.

Consistent failure to communicate pool closures and occupancy. Example—past weekend had a swim meet followed by maintenance. This was written on a whiteboard as you walk in (thank you). However, it was failed to be communicated when the pool would reopen / how long the maintenance would take. I was told I could go to another Y location—20 minutes away?! No thank you. I did not plan for an extra 40 minutes in my day to get to the gym. Another example—swim teams use the pool, but their lane and practice times are posted no where! Members do not know how long a given lane will be free or when we will be kicked out of it. Members are second class when it comes to pool usage. I sincerely hope to see a change in this YMCA’s communication. However, I get the impression they rely on the lack of competing gyms in the area to get away with such a poor experience.

My family and I go to this YMCA about 3 times a week and the staff is really friendly! We have taken swimming lessons here and it was a great experience! We love all of the kid friendly activities! Lately the cleanliness of the locker rooms has hit an all time low in my opinion. Ive been looking at the same 5 bandaids in one of the shower stalls for about a week now. I don’t even walk around the locker room without my shoes on anymore. The locker room especially the shower needs a very deep cleaned and sanitize. Aside from that I’d love to see some more bench presses, from what I’ve seen they only have two and they always are in use and seem to have people waiting around for them.

Over the last few months, the experience coming to the aquatic center has gotten worse and worse. First, the large blue slide seems to always be closed. Every time we have gone in the last 6-12 months, the blue slide is not open for kids. We understand the staffing shortage causes the slide to be closed at times, but it’s been the same thing every time we visit. We were told there are specific hours that the slide is open, however these hours are not advertised anywhere for us to know. Secondly, the treatment of the lifeguards today was absolutely abhorrent. My husband was whistle at for helping my 1-year-old down the turtle slide and for having my 7-year-old on his shoulders in the warm pool. One of my children was moving to the deeper side of the warm pool and crossed over the rope and got whistled at for doing that. Worse of them all, my nephew who is 10 years old was swimming in the kiddie pool with my 1-year-old daughter and had his green necklace in his mouth and got completely scolded by a lifeguard. The lifeguard told him he would rip that necklace off of him if he did that again. The way he talked to my nephew was appalling, I could not believe what I was hearing. The same lifeguard whistled at me after my 1-year-old took her red necklace off when I was attempting to put it back on. DO not recommend coming to the pool at YMCA west.
