I am so grateful for Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center. After my hip replacement surgery, the pool has become such an important part of my recovery. The water workouts have been gentle on my joints while still allowing me to rebuild strength and mobility. It’s been exactly what I needed. The facility was recently renovated and reopened in December 2025, and it looks fantastic. Everything feels clean, bright, and updated. The indoor pool area is spacious and well maintained, and I especially appreciate how comfortable and welcoming the environment feels. While I’m in the pool, Lee takes full advantage of the rest of the center — working out on the machines, walking the indoor track, and even getting in a little basketball. It truly offers something for everyone, whether you’re rehabbing, training, or just staying active. Plano has several other great recreation centers, and we’re fortunate to have so many wonderful options. This is just the one I find myself going to most often. Highly recommend!

Life Time Fitness Vibes for a Fraction of the Cost! (New 2026 Reopening) I’ve been coming to the Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center in West Plano for years, but after the recent grand reopening, it is on a completely different level. If you are looking for high-end fitness in Plano without the luxury club price tag, this is it. It honestly feels more like a Life Time Fitness or an upscale private club now. The 2026 Upgrades are Incredible: The city clearly invested heavily in this renovation. The first thing you notice is the brand-new cardio equipment and the refreshed weight room. Everything is high-tech, clean, and spaced out perfectly. They also resurfaced the indoor track and the gym floors, which now include dedicated space for Pickleball—a huge win for the Plano community. Aquatics & Locker Rooms: The indoor and outdoor pools were always a draw, but the new children’s pool play structure and the updated pool deck make it the best spot in Collin County for families. Also, a huge shoutout for the refreshed locker rooms. They finally fixed the plumbing and HVAC issues, so it feels fresh, modern, and—most importantly—temperature-controlled. Why it’s the best gym in Plano: Location: Perfectly situated on W. Parker Road, right across from Plano West Senior High. Value: You get a double gymnasium, indoor lap pools, and a premium fitness floor for a fraction of what you’d pay at a big-box gym. Atmosphere: It’s bright, "fresher" than it's ever been, and the staff seems re-energized after the reopening. Whether you're a serious lifter, a swimmer, or just looking for a place for the kids to splash around, the "new" Muehlenbeck is the gold standard for Plano Parks and Rec. 10/10 recommend checking out the new facility!

The center is awesome great for families whether you’re an adult or a kid they have something that suits everyone. Also being available and open so early is a plus where you can get a great workout in and head home with no issues.

Love the renovations. The pool is great and the gym equipment is decent. There are two squat racks with platforms for weightlifting. There is also a rope climbing machine which is rare in recreational gyms. The locker rooms are well maintained, and have soap dispensers in the showers.

We had a great time at Tom Muehlenbeck Center! The place is very clean, and the price is reasonable. Indoor pool had lazy river and water slide. Outdoor area was awesome with splash pad, kids area, water slides, and pool. Water slides are for kids 48 inches and up. There were a lot of tables in the shade, which is very helpful in this heat. And lastly, stuff sold at the concession stand were not expensive at all. Frozen fruit bar was just a dollar.
