The Salvation Army Kroc Center Hampton Roads | Norfolk, VA

If you have an important occasion to celebrate, I don’t recommend this venue. Communication is horrible and they charged my credit card for over $250 without communicating with me. After lots of planning, we were unable to give our child the pool party she wanted at this facility because of their negligence. I found it nearly impossible to finalize the event and ultimately had to cancel after planning a birthday party at this facility three months in advance, paying the deposit, and attempting to communicate with staff on various occasions. We had to find another venue in under a week. I sent multiple emails and made many phone calls and did not receive a response. When I did hear from their staff for the first time in three months, it was a call about my balance for the birthday party being late, but I had not received any deadlines, an invoice or other instructions. Even after the lull in communication, I still attempted to have the birthday party at the Kroc Center because my child was really excited about having a pool party there. After communicating the final count and asking more questions, I experienced another major lull in communication with only days left before the event at which time I ultimately decided to find another venue because I didn’t want my child to be without a party! The next communication that I received was a receipt for a final payment. My credit card had been charged without any communication with me. The amount of the charge was also incorrect because they never confirmed the final count for the party. It was not until I canceled the birthday party and requested a refund for both my deposit and the final charge on my credit card that I received consistent communication and an apology. Fortunately I was able to find another venue, but this lack of communication when trying to plan a child’s birthday party or any other special occasion can be detrimental. After sharing my experience with others, I learned that many people have had similar issues with communication and had to select a different venue.

The Aquatics Staff... AMAZING and have very attentive life guards. The Housekeeping Staff... AMAZING and the locker rooms are always clean. The front desk in the evenings? Horrible.... Attitude + Snark. The Kroc center schedule online is no longer active. So I called the front desk to inquire about their Aquatics Schedule for a class I paid for. Front desk told me they have NO access to any kind of schedule for the ENTIRE PLACE until the MORNING OF. (Meanwhile there's a paper printed monthly schedule taped in various areas of the Center) How does a place with so many moving parts and programs run when the staff doesn't know what's happening until the day of? I believe it was an excuse, so she didn't have to preform her job function and could go back to playing on her phone. Overall it's a great place with the exception of the front desk.

Awesome place for seniors, I love it and I go 4 days out the week. We have so many fitness classes and everyone is AWESOME 👍🎊

I like it but the staff at the front desk lets certain people in for free and makes others pay full price.. I went in to buy a month to month pass and she tried to make me pay more than I should for my age group.. make sure you don't get screwed

I had a membership with these supposed public servants for 3 years to utilize their gym and swimming pool, while living in Norfolk then I cancelled my membership and supposedly they lost my cancellation form and charged my account every month for the next two years while living in north Carolina where their is no access, to salvation army gyms and I've gotten the run around about getting refunded for the past8 months since finding out they've been drafting from my account. This is absolutely ridiculous customer service
