St. Paul Eastside YMCA | Ramsey County, MN
About this class
Families love the friendly vibes at St. Paul Eastside YMCA, but fair warning: if you plan on using the family pool, double-check the schedule first—it's not always open when you expect it to be!

UPDATE 7/2/25 - adding a star because they have not had a late-opening issue since my first review. Nice location, like I said. Original review: I *really* want to like this location - clean, uncrowded, sauna actually hot (the Midway sauna is barely warm) - but I've been coming on Saturday mornings for maybe six weeks and already twice they have had staff no shows or some other issue and opened late. Today I waited 40 minutes and finally left. There were 20 cars there, so about 15 hours (or more, who knows when they opened) of people's Saturday wasted. I know YMCA is a nonprofit, but it's hard to keep paying for a membership when you can't rely on their already short weekend hours.

Todd called me to sign me up and he knew exactly the information I needed. he was professional easy going and kind he sold me on my membership in 3 minutes telling about the gym and asking me about my schedule to make sure this gym was a right fitfor me. Once I got there he greeted me and made me feel welcomed in person and I’d just like to say thank you Todd!!

Went in to check out the facility as my wife and I are thinking about joining the Y and was treated very poorly, we were told we couldn't be in the facility without being a member (woodbury allowed us to tour the facility buts it's very small and outdated) she was rude and basically said this facility is not safe to be in.

I have visited many YMCA’s. But when it comes to Saint Paul they really don’t have any good ones. I visited Y’s in downtown, east side and west side. They have huge place but they really need to upgrade them. On East side I was told they didn’t have barbell racks with different weights and was asked to you the generic barbel instead. They also don’t have sufficient bench’s or cardio equipments( they have like 7-8 treadmills, 1-2 stair, 2-3 elliptical). They badly lack in gym equipments. For the amount of monthly fees they charge it’s not a recommended place if you plan on using it as a gym. They do have a really nice swimming pool and two basketball courts. That’s pretty much they have to offer. Since I have been to Y’s in different cities I really expected them to have a good standards. Conclusion not worth the membership price if you want to use it as a gym! Period Update: I had submitted in request for physical assessment twice. I got two emails saying someone will be calling me soon. I haven’t heard back from them at all! It has been over two weeks since I last put in request. It just shows that they don’t care. I usually enjoy Y’s but having worst experience with Y’s in here. So reducing my rating to 1 star and i have cancelled my membership.

Edit to three stars, as I do want to acknowledge that the Director of Membership called me after this incident and was professional about the entire matter, and apologized and offered a free month of membership if we wanted to maintain membership. Ultimately we decided that a month of free membership was not worth the risk of running into Ms. Hellende again, but we may consider rejoining at a later date. Up until today, I would have rated this place 4 or 5 stars. I've had a family membership for over a year. Today we tried to bring our 3 year old twins to the family pool, but it was apparently closed until 5pm. They do have this on their website but it is difficult to find. There was a lifeguard for the lap pool that was very kind (he had a red shirt and a gray mustache). However, the director of aquatics, Chelsea Hellende, held up a paper schedule and smiled and laughed at us as my children were crying. We were in our swimsuits in the pool area and she couldn't even say "Sorry for the inconvenience." The family pool is also closed all day tomorrow. It's not worth it for us to maintain membership after this experience. I told the front desk that I was canceling due to rude staff, and was not asked any follow-up questions. I wouldn't recommend that anyone with young children go here if access to the pool or considerate staff are important to you.
