Richmondtown Library | Staten Island, NY

The Richmond Town Library is my local library and it is a gem of a place especially for young children. I started coming here regularly with my 2 1/2 year-old daughter this fall to further foster her love of reading and have her socialize with children her own age with the different FREE programs they offer . I would love to shout out the "little movers storytime" program for being so engaging and educational ! They theme each week with seasonal or educational appropriate topics that are super engaging and fun for little minds. They also mix in silly songs and chants that keep little bodies moving . As a teacher, I find this program age-appropriate and such a fun way to get your little ones used to routines and structure. They will end each session with a meaningful craft that ties in to the theme. They expose the kids to important educational topics like animals , colors, shapes, numbers etc. through engaging visuals , stories, and songs . The women that run the program clearly love their job and take pride in the execution of a well-thought-out and educational program. They always have a smile on their face and a warm greeting coming and going. My daughter will ask me when we are coming back the minute we walk out of the library . I also find the upstairs kid section of the library unmatched to most libraries on the island. They have books organized in such an attractive way that my daughter immediately runs to her favorite sections to find either her favorite character stories or a fun read-aloud. The board books are at kid height and easily accessible by little hands. They always have sections that are the current holiday and/or seasonally themed displayed attractively in the front. The staff also decorates the area to be super inviting for each season and will have scavenger hunts and coloring pages available. My daughter could spend an hour in that area of the library easily. Overall, we enjoy our weekly trip to the library and find the staff very friendly and clearly care about creating an engaging community space for the littles of Staten Island . I would recommend anyone home with kids to stop by.

This our favorite Staten Island library location. It provides many fun activities for kids. Miss Amy is one of the nicest librarians we have ever met. The children’s area is always clean and is stocked with new book arrivals every time we are there.

Personally enjoy coming here, sometimes it could be noisy so I would recommend bringing a noise canceling headphone and a sweater in the summer cause the ac is turntt.

There is one librarian at this location that is just one of the nastiest human beings I’ve ever encountered. There’s not a single day she does not have an attitude. Nice parking lot, rather go to great kills where it’s warm and welcoming

Nice library. Quiet. Spacious. AC kept the place cool in the hot, humid weather. Parking lot makes for easy parking. BUT the staff were not at all welcoming. One young woman, especially, looked very bothered when I came in. They all seemed to want to avoid any eye contact. Not at all approachable to ask any questions. Normally I wouldn't care-- I don't go for people to be nice, but it was so blatantly obvious and bit surprising. I visit so many different libraries and the staff are always so nice and welcoming and wanting to be helpful. Such a nice library, too bad the people who work there aren't as pleasant.
