Queens Public Library at Sunnyside Library | Queens, NY

Library staff is unhelpful, i.e., the staff goes out of its way to obstruct patrons from getting their work done. Several commenters note that issue with printing - the staff raises it voice or states "that's not our policy" among myriad reasons to be unhelpful. The collective atmosphere is extremely toxic. A few patrons asked the chief library Nick Buron to address the issue and he retaliated against the patrons - further green lighting the toxic atmosphere and unhelpful behavior. Crude and vulgar flows from the top down. Queens library and Sunnyside branch is an example of why people lose trust in public institutions. Avoid this branch if you can.

Why is the teens section so noisy? At 3pm sharp multiple packs of teenagers come in and start debriefing their entire life story out loud while me and other teens are trying to study for school. Worst thing is, the teen section is in front of the front desk. So yes, the librarians witness this and they don't do anything. But of course the nanosecond one of them hears a crinkle of plastic, the librarian teleports and demands you to put away your food. Id love that energy to be put in enforcing the basic rule of the library, be quiet. I also love how some 15 year olds here are doing more work trying to study than these grown adults with the easiest job in the world, how embarrassing.

Agree with others on here about the staff. I’m sure the library is great, but I just tried to use the computer and the staff member would not let me without my card. In every other Queens library, they have a keyboard to type your card number in. I explained to the librarian that i unfortunately left my card at another library, but needed to get online as quickly as possible, and that I had my library card. She insisted I had to download the app, so she could scan the barcode. I told her that downloading another app on my phone was not something I wanted to do and that it would take too much time. She said it won’t take that much time - all of this useless chatter ate up the five minutes I needed to log on and get online very quickly. I don’t understand why this branch, at least according to this librarian, refuses to allow customers to use a keyboard. But when every other library in queens allows one to key in their code, this rule and the indifference in a visitors time left me disappointed and rushing to find another solution.

This library used to be such a nice place to visit until they hired the lady in charge of the kids section. I think her name is Elizabeth (though the name Karen suits her better!) She is extremely rude to children, always lecturing them about manners and being quiet while she keeps talking nonstop. One day my son asked her for a pencil and she kept holding it in front of him demanding him to say please even when he had already said it and she clearly didn’t listen. She also stopped one of her “classes” to demand attention from my son who was just coloring. She said she wouldn’t continue unless he paid attention. Are you serious? I don’t know who hired this obnoxious woman but clearly she is not fitted to be a librarian let alone working with little kids.

The staff was friendly and helpful during our visit. We didn't use the computers at this branch, just some reading and playtime.
