I visited the New Amsterdam Library and found it to be a quiet, practical retreat right in the middle of busy Lower Manhattan. Pros - There’s a computer space with 6 plugs - Beautiful artworks make it feel like a gallery - Clean and bright - Quite (at least the time when I visit) Cons - The chairs at computer area are too tall compared to its table. It’ll be much better to change those chairs. - Just 1 floor. Relatively few seats with plugs available - Not sure if it’s just for this branch, but I was told I wasn’t allowed to stay in children’s place without a child when I was trying to use a plug there

It’s a good study space, except seating is limited and the bathrooms are horribly cared for and smells terrible. You need to get a key to access the restrooms, there is also barely any toilet paper. Not great, though a great location.

This library should declare itself a children's library. The crowd is very nosy on Tuesday due to child events. There is no effective way to divide the child space from adults that wish to work, read or study. I was unable to get simple tasks performed due to the noise levels.

1/3 the population were homeless with all their belongings. . Librarians do not enforce the policies of no luggage/oversized items. Bathrooms had urine all over toilet. Libraries are for reading, research and learning - not a homeless shelter
