Lovely new library designed by Snohetta. The entrance reminded me of the Walt Whitman tomb site in Camden NJ, a nice literary citation if intended. I also liked the transparent walls, reminiscent of Gordon Bunshaft's Beinecke Rare Books Library at Yale. From the outside it almost looks like an Egyptian tomb (or a mini Grand Egyptian Museum). The inside with the concrete stair reminded me of Zaha Hadid's Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati. Overall, a great addition to a lively neighborhood in Far Rockaway. Snohetta has become kind of a specialist in libraries, including libraries in Alexandria, Egypt, Calgary, Canada, and at North Carolina State and Temple Universities.

I love it. Friendly patrons amd staff. Plenty of computers to rent, books to reserve, and youth spaces.

Nice and beautiful, but I don't think one can have a quiet section to read there, people talk loud, eating, drinking, playing music. I noticed is a small place just for short meeting and dinning. Something needs to be done before it turns to train station.

Far Rockaway alwaysss gets the last of everything. This library has no auditorium. How can a library not have one? Too much empty space not used, where the stairs are attached the top there is a big space but there is an openings instead of more shelves could have been. The Library in Elmhurst,Queens and Flushing Queens are much much bigger. Why the one in Far Rockaway could not have been 3 floors? The entrance has a lottt of empty space. I know I know people should be grateful..but they could have made the effort to make it much much bigger.
