Eugene Family YMCA | Lane County, OR

The new facility is so beautiful that I feel like I’m going to a resort when I go to the gym. It truly feels luxurious, with so much space and options for working out. Additionally, we have trusted Y Care with our kids for 4 years and they really have never let us down. The kids are all members and we can use child care when we want to use the facilities. The child care hours are generous and make it easy to use the service. Our teen loves the room where only middle schoolers can hang out. He wants to go there as often as possible where he can meet other kids his age and play games. I have nothing bad to say! I love our local Y.

Traveling around the US and this is one of the nicest community gyms I’ve been to. Got a day pass w/ my boyfriend and it was discounted to $14.50 instead of the typical $18. They have great, modern equipment as well as a large selection of free weights. Everything is very clean. There were lots of families and it looked like they offered tons of classes. Sadly the sauna was closed for cleaning (every Tuesday at noon to Wednesday at noon). Theres a hot tub, massage chairs, and lap pool. Quite a few community members using the space, but didn’t have any trouble getting a good workout in.

I have felt so welcomed here. Starting and continuing running has been hard, but access to really nice slat treadmills has helped me reduce shin splints as I started out. I really appreciate the neutral/family locker room. It’s nice to work out around people who are also not “typical” gym-goers like me. We have only experienced very friendly people here, It feels nice to be part of a community 😊

NOT family friendly nor community focused. I looked into joining the Y when I moved to Eugene. It was overcrowded; difficult to get classes; and too difficult to park. I also know a few folks that have worked there and found: low pay; lack of coordination; over-worked AND now heard that child care staff is NOT allowed to take outside babysitting jobs! A no compete requirement for child care staff - I feel it is VERY UNFAIR to the workers and the families that may want to offer jobs to sitters they know. Oh yea heard they also ask staff to sign something that says they will forego lunches - where is the health and goodwill in that? Willamalane Fitness seems much more humane.

We came from Seattle and had a very bad experience. One afternoon, my 10-year-old son was playing basketball with a other younger boy on the court. The boy was very rude. When he couldn't win the game, he pushed my son and hit him in the face. My son's teeth were bleeding. It was such a serious bullying incident, but the staff's solution was to shake hands and make peace. The bullying boy was still playing happily on the court, but my son went home crying. Don't expect to get a safe environment here, because the bullying boy will continue to beat others here.
