Charleston Library is a wonderful community resource that serves the neighborhood beautifully. The collection is well curated and regularly updated and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to help you find what you need. The space is clean, quiet, and welcoming making it a perfect place to read, study, or simply browse. A valuable and much appreciated branch of the NYPL system that the Charleston community is lucky to have!

While we were just told about this beautiful new library that just opened up when we were visiting my children's grandparents. We are avid and frequent library visitors because I want my children to not just grow up with the love of books, but know their is a community out there that allows them to do free activities and learnt the dame time. We decided to give this library a try this morning because they had a kids reading and other activities event at 10 am. I read on their website first come, first serve with limited capacity. So we got there at 9:30 to learn that they will not let you in until they open doors at 10 am. So, with about 20 mins or so to spare with two excited children, I had to burn their energy and take them for a walk. We got back at exactly 10 a.m., and they opened doors, let a certain amount of people in and said they reached capacity. Leaving a bunch of sad children out who do not understand why they were not included. I understand that for fire safety, the SMALL room they chose to do it will only allow to accommodate a number of people. But it is 10 am, the library just opened and you have another large room. The manager needs to learn that you do not exclude children. You accommodate for the crowd of people that actually want to come to your place. They could have moved the reading room to the bigger room that would have accommodated the entire group and not left our about 8 children. It's bad enough people don't go to the library, but when you have people coming, you do what you can to support them and accommodate for every child. From the looks of this, this place does this weekly and leaves children out. So try telling you infant or toddler. Sorry, it's the luck of the draw. I certainly will not be coming back to this library anytime soon. Hopefully, they will reevaluate, or I'm sure those other parents will be likely to get fed up and do the same. Beautiful empty library, what a shame. Let's not mention they had some books on display for my toddlers to want to grab because they were specifically placed out for them, and when I start reading, it's about a child that is transgender. How dare they. Do not push that on people and their kids. You could have a section on it for those who want to believe, but do not shove that stuff in my children's faces. They are kids who do not need to learn about adult disabilities.

New, compact, quiet. My children like to be there. But they need to have a more books in Ukrainian language, and others languages too.

I was thrilled to see a new library open in the south shore. Charleston is a perfect location for it. Although the library is modern, with plenty of brand-new computers and nice furniture, the selection of books was a bit disappointing. Not that many titles were available, although the librarian was incredibly accommodating and helpful with my queries. Will definitely be back.

Great brand new library, located in the south of staten island. This NYPL location has everything you want in a modern library. Abundant computers, sufficient working space, couches, cozy corners, modern architecture, energy efficient, super clean, wifi and so much more. Highly recommend coming out here. Even if it's not near your neighborhood, to check it out for yourself.
