Overall, my daughter and I enjoyed our semester with Canalside Music Together, and I'd recommend it to anyone curious. A few findings from the semester below: Pros: - The teachers are wonderful. I did several make up classes, which I actually enjoyed because I got to experience different class groups and teachers. Some were better than others, it all depended on the vibe of the parents/kids, but the teachers were consistently kind, enthusiastic, energetic, and warm (not to mention very musically talented!). - It was amazing seeing my 1 y/o daughter grow from the first to last class. She was more engaged, clapping on rhythm at times, and definitely became familiar with the songs. - I appreciate the class giving me more songs in my arsenal to sing with my daughter, they were all off the beaten path and fun! - Instrument time was great. I loved exposing my daughter to different instruments (even though she put most of them in her mouth, but CMT is very cool with that and sterilizes them after every class so it's a safe space!) Cons: - Lack of community-building. I tried out CMT hoping I would meet other parents of littles (or maybe even make a friend) since we are not in daycare. It was very much an in & out experience without time or space (more on that below) for parents to connect and build community. I appreciate that the teachers want to make the most of class time and get right into the music (it's non stop from opening song to goodbye song), but I was really disappointed with the missed opportunity of connecting families together, which is the biggest reason I chose not to enroll next semester. I understand that's not their main remit, but with kids this age I think any experience should give some space for people to connect. When I did connect with another parent and try to have a little side chat we were often asked (politely) to return our attention to class. - Physical class size. The room is quite small, I think more breathing room would make me more comfortable, and potentially give more opportunity to mingle before/after class to drive community building. The class sizes are already quite small so I wouldn't want to reduce them further.

My son and I have been enrolled for two semesters. He enjoys it and we are both getting a lot out of our experience. Recently, my son was having a bad day. Ms. Esther handled the situation perfectly. She was understanding and very supportive of my son's needs as well as mine as a parent. She provided the right amount of attention, despite our choice to spend the entire classtime in the waiting room due to my son's behavior. She consistently maintains fun, upbeat classes, yet never allows the learning environment be compromised. (Not easy with a class of babies and toddlers.) It is obvious to me that she truly loves to help all kids learn and grow their interest in music. Thank you Ms. Esther!!!
